CARE & MAINTENANCE

Annuals require adequate moisture to grow flowering annuals. Supplemental irrigation is usually necessary, particularly during the summer. As a rule most require at least one inch of water per week. More may be required during periods of extreme heat. Mulches of bark, pine straw, or compost help prevent water loss and also aid in weed control. Occasional hand weeding should keep the weeds in check. The removal of old flowers may promote flowering of some selections. Usually a light fertilization every six weeks during the growing season will promote growth and flowering. Annuals are considered easy to grow and flower all season long with reasonable care.
